It comes as no surprise that summer is a fan favorite among seniors who want to capture one of their most memorable years.
The weather is warm, the grass is green, and gardens are in bloom, giving you countless backdrops to work with.
If you’ve decided that summer is also your month of choice for your senior portraits, here are a few tips to keep in mind to make the most of your shoot.
- Think twice about your location. It doesn’t matter where you choose to shoot, chances are it’s going to get pretty toasty. However, choosing a location with shade, water, or even air conditioning can make those breaks in between shots simply heavenly.
- The time matters too. Not only is it cooler earlier or later in the day, but the lighting is better too, which will make for better photos, so pick the time of your shoot carefully.
- Stay hydrated. As much as it’s important to bring some ice-cold water with you to your summer senior shoot, staying hydrated in the days leading up to your session also makes a big difference, particularly to your skin.
- Enjoy some ice cream. Depending on the location as well as the theme of your senior shoot, you could always end things off with ice cream – cooling and a fun prop!
- Throw in a fan. Those small battery-powered fans can be a lifesaver on a hot summer day, especially when you want to keep your makeup looking fresh. As an added bonus, they’re affordable too.
- Bring the essentials. If you are shooting outdoors during the summer months, pack more than just water. Think bug spray, a makeup touch-up kit, deodorant or perfume and some sunscreen to protect you from those harsh rays.
- Get clever with props. Another way to stay cool during a summer senior shoot and have some fun is to bring props. Paper fans, umbrellas, and sunglasses are all options.
As you can see, having a successful summer senior shoot just requires a few minor adjustments and an ice cream or two.
